Explosions, IN YOUR FACE!

Worms 3D

I dunno how many of you, back in the days of yore (whatever the hell yore actually is) played the Worms games. For those of you not in the know, the Worms franchise is based around the core concept of small animated worms having copious amounts of weaponry, and then trying to kill each other. If anyone has played Scorched Earth, it's kinda like that game, honestly... but cuter.

So out comes Worms 3D for the various systems. I liked the original games enough to grab this one. I'm not gonna come out and say I hate it... but I'm not having the time of my life either.

For starters, how had is it to debug a game before releasing it? I keep having bad graphical glitches happen (worms that distort and more about when the camera shifts). Worse, the game has at least once locked up on me while loading a stage. That irks my ass.

Critical stops should be worked out of the system before it even passes alpha testing, far as I care.

Beyond that, they really should have worked out the play control better. Often times the worms are unresponsive to the point of agony, and with some of the stages being platform-esque, this kinda shoddy control is inexcusable. The camera is also awful. Why is it that people can't seem to make a decent camera system? Half the time I find the camera picking out weird angles to watch from, and while I can adjust a little, I can't get the camera to do what I need it to all the time.

Those are my gripes. On the plus side, it's classic worms action. Playing against other players is quite fun, and better than dealing with the sometimes smart sometimes stupid computer AI. I haven't been able to find an option though that allows all players to use different controllers. Right now, it's a game of "pass the controller to the next guy," which is stupid on a system with multiple controller ports.

I dunno... The game on the whole is kinda shallow, and best played with friends. The rest of the time, it's so-so, and with the computer glitches, not always worth the effort.
